The nature of our reality is that we are co-creators of it and that we are always changing and adapting. On ’Parallel Realities,’ Baltimore-based producer Dawn Chorus blends a unique, sonic palette of exciting beats, glitchy percussion, ambient melodies, and earth-shaking bass.

The album was created solely ‘in-the-box’ on a laptop using Ableton Live software and consists of manipulated loops, samples and softsynths. The album’s cover combines abstract painting and digital photography by self-taught visual artist Joris Graaf. The work is titled ‘To One Another’ and closely resembles a futuristic island that is remote yet otherworldly. *

The album opener and single, ’Changes’ is a 3 minute aural exploration of electro beats sprinkled with background percussion, intricate melodies, and ambient strings - a dream-like hybrid of uplifting euphoria and warm nostalgia. The music is a brief soundtrack bringing to mind the varying cycles ever-present throughout our lives.

The second and third tracks, ‘Coastal View’ and ‘June Radio’ respecitvely, contain contributions from producer Veritech Pilot. The tracks feature various elements - sparse melodies, reversed audio samples, chopped and diced breakbeats, sub drops, and eroded keys.

On ‘Sunbeams,’ the light shines through in lush chordal pads and a rolling thunderous beat. A pitched-down mangled voice is welcomed into the track, soon followed by the bright response of bell-like melodies - a happy outlook leading to a spacious outro, which gives room for the listener to digest the track’s full impact.

‘Testing Station’ includes a 160bpm footwork style beat, sub-oriented bass, harmonized synths, glitchy hi-hats, and noisy tape effects.

The album’s title track, ‘Parallel Realities,’ is more brooding. The track builds off of haunting vocal choruses and vinyl crackle, leading into airy melodic noise placed behind industrial and garage-type beats. In the outro, the mangled male voice, saturated female vocal sample, and chirping birds fade into a distant world not far out of reach, a parallel reality yet to be discovered.
